U Spy The 2025 Acura MDX Type S Facelift In New York
The flagship of the Acura MDX range is getting a slightly redesigned face
Acura is currently in the process of developing a mid-lifecycle update for the MDX, and one of our readers managed to capture a camouflaged prototype being tested in New York City. The SUV seems to be the sporty Type S variant, concealing subtle visual revisions on both the front and rear sections.
This particular MDX prototype came with the Tiger Eye Pearl shade, 21-inch alloy wheels, and quad tailpipes, which are specific features of the Type S. The front end and the rear bumper were covered in camouflage, indicating that the updates will be focused on those areas.

While the grille and LED headlights of the prototype resemble those of the current model, noticeable changes are observed in the redesigned and slightly repositioned bumper intakes. At the rear, smaller modifications are anticipated, likely centered around the trim of the rear bumper.
It's important to keep in mind that the prototypes are still in the early stages of development, and further redesigned components may be incorporated in future iterations. While the updates observed so far may appear minor, it's possible that additional changes could be introduced. Recently, another one of our readers spotted the standard variant of the MDX on a highway, although only the front end was camouflaged.
In addition to the revised exterior, it is highly likely that the interior of the MDX will also gain some updates. These should include new technology features and a variety of trim combinations, enhancing the overall interior experience and keeping everything up to date for the next few years.
We don't have any information on any powertrain changes, and it wouldn't come as a surprise if the current lineup is retained for the facelifted model. The current Acura MDX Type S boasts a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, delivering 355 horsepower (265 kW / 360 PS) and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque. This power is transmitted to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission and Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system. The Type S variant also features air suspension, adaptive dampers, larger Brembo front brakes, and an additional Sport+ driving mode.
The fourth generation of the Acura MDX was initially introduced as a prototype in October 2020, and it later launched in its final production form in January 2021 as a 2022 model year. Therefore, it is anticipated that a facelift will be released in early 2024, possibly as a 2025 model year. In the meantime, we anticipate more sightings of prototypes, which will provide us with additional information regarding the forthcoming visual and technological enhancements.
