John Wick 4 Has Its Own Daredevil and Kingpin

As Keanu Reeves' titular hitman fends off many threats in Europe, John Wick: Chapter 4 offers up twisted takes on Kingpin and Daredevil.

The following contains spoilers for John Wick: Chapter 4, now in theaters.

One of the most interesting aspects of the John Wick series has always been the unique array of villains Keanu Reeves' titular assassin faces. The likes of Common's Cassian and Mark Dacascos' Zero stand out, using guns and blades in the past to almost take John out. However, John has always found a way out.

John Wick: Chapter 4 puts the hero through his bloodiest gauntlet yet, with almost every killer in Europe coming after him as he tries to stop the Marquis (Bill Skarsgård). However, there are two particular ones that stand out in this new journey, offering up sadistic versions of Kingpin and Daredevil.

Killa (played by action aficionado Scott Adkins) is the head of a mafia in Berlin who takes out a member of the Wick family. It's on the order of The High Table, meant to send a message to the Belarus clan they must pay for John's sins, too. John ends up hunting Killa at his nightclub, but he's no pint-sized assassin. He's a European Kingpin but much more fierce in battle.

From Killa's suit, rings, ego and how he taunts John, he feels like Wilson Fisk. But while Michael Clarke Duncan and Vincent D'Onofrio's versions were brawlers, Killa's is much faster in a fight. He knows kung-fu and comes off like a one-man army, battering John and tossing him off the top level.

Admittedly, John underestimates him because, much like people do with Fisk, he just can't believe someone of this stature can move that quickly. Luckily, John drops him down the stairs and on his head, bashing his face in and taking Killa's gold tooth to gain entrance back into his clan. Still, it's a brutal scrap that leaves John badly wounded and Berlin with one less crime boss.

However, John Wick: Chapter 4's most brutal enemy is Donnie Yen's Caine, the blind hitman forced by the High Table to take his former friend down. The film never explains it, but Caine basically operates like Matt Murdock, dodging bullets and blades and coming off like he can hear. John Wick director, Chad Stahelski, has been influenced by the superhero genre, so one can only assume it's echolocation, teased when he sets up motion sensor doorbells in one brawl to detect opponents.

But after that, science and logic are thrown out. Caine is as swift as Daredevil, sneaking up on other assassins at will, using guns and his iconic katana to slice and stab folks up in the blink of an eye. It again shows how Stahelski's John merges a grounded reality with something more escapist. Caine continues to defy the odds in the Paris stairwell scene, too, sliding down and cutting folks up just so he could be the one to finish John off.

And the fact he rocks the black suit, shades and walking stick as well, it's clear Caine is an homage to Daredevil, being the one who pushes John to the limit in the finale. Luckily, he and John don't end up killing each other, instead attaining freedom from The High Table. Ultimately, it elicits a sigh of relief from John as he runs out of ideas on how to take out his enemy with a supernatural sixth sense.

I'm a former Chemical Engineer. It was boring so I decided to write about things I love. On the geek side of things, I write about comics, cartoons, video games, television, movies and basically, all things nerdy. I also write about music in terms of punk, indie, hardcore and emo because well, they rock! If you're bored by now, then you also don't want to hear that I write for ESPN on the PR side of things. And yes, I've written sports for them too! Not bad for someone from the Caribbean, eh? To top all this off, I've scribed short films and documentaries, conceptualizing stories and scripts from a human interest and social justice perspective. Business-wise, I make big cheddar (not really) as a copywriter and digital strategist working with some of the top brands in the Latin America region. In closing, let me remind you that the geek shall inherit the Earth. Oh, FYI, I'd love to write the Gargoyles movie for Disney. YOLO. That said, I'm on Twitter @RenaldoMatadeen. So holler.
