Tractor-Trailer Loses Wheels on Interstate 470 in Bethlehem | News, Sports, Jobs - The Intelligencer

(Photo by Shelley Hanson) A Dollar General trailer lays on its side just off Interstate 470 in Bethlehem on Thursday morning. The trailer lost two of its back tires, but the driver was able to make it off the exit. No one was injured.

BETHLEHEM – No one was injured after a tractor-trailer’s two rear dual wheels fell off while traveling east on Interstate 470 in Bethlehem early Thursday.

Bethlehem Police Department Officer Rusty Jewell said the driver of the tractor-trailer was able to safely make it off the interstate, taking the Bethlehem exit.

However, as the driver came off the exit and tried to separate the tractor from the trailer, the landing gear malfunctioned, causing the trailer to fall onto its side into a ditch. The tractor was undamaged.

Heavy wreckers were used to pull the trailer out of the ditch. Large inflatable bags were going to be used to upright the trailer back on its remaining wheels. Working on the scene were Bill’s Towing and Interstate Towing.

The trailer was carrying Dollar General merchandise.
